Barry Posner, Ph.D. recognized as one of the Top 50 leadership coaches in America, ranked among the Most Influential HR thinkers in the world by HR magazine, listed among the Top 75 Leadership and Management Experts in the world by Inc. magazine, and among Global Gurus Top 20 Leadership Gurus, is coming to Cincinnati to speak to the leaders of today and the future to help them prepare for leaving a leadership legacy.
Posner, co-author of the award-winning and best-selling leadership book The Leadership Challenge, which is listed among The Top 100 Business Books of All Time, will deliver the keynote address at Securing the Future, a conference run by the Leadership Council for Nonprofits.

The 20th annual event will be held Thursday, March 5 at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. This year, the topic is “The Life You Lead is the Legacy You Leave.” The main part of the event will be 7:30 am to 12:30 am.

Securing the Future is the largest gathering of its kind each year in Cincinnati, focusing on nonprofit leadership development. Last year, 350 people attended. Traditionally, the event has been geared toward the nonprofit sector, including executives, board members and funders. But this year, Posner’s presentations – and the break-out sessions afterward – are likely to enlighten the business world as well, including senior executives, and human resource professionals.

“No matter where we are in our leadership journey, we should always have our leadership legacy in mind,” said Jenny Berg, executive director of the Leadership Council. “Barry can help. He will provoke, stimulate, inspire and motivate us to gain a broader understanding of the legacy we can leave so we can secure the futures of the organizations we serve.”

Barry Posner is the Accolti Endowed Professor of Leadership at the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University, where he served for 12 years as Dean of the School. Barry received the Association for Talent Development’s highest award for Distinguished Contribution to Workplace Learning and Performance. He has been named as one of the nation’s top management and leadership educators by the International Management Council.

Barry has also co-authored several other award-winning, inspiring and practical books on leadership: Turning Adversity Into Opportunity; Finding the Courage to Lead; Great Leadership Creates Great Workplaces; Credibility: How Leaders Gain and Lose It, Why People Demand It; The Truth About Leadership: The No-Fads, Heart-of-the Matter Facts You Need to Know; Encouraging the Heart: A Leaders Guide to Recognizing and Rewarding Others; A Leader’s Legacy; Extraordinary Leadership in Australia and New Zealand, Making Extraordinary Things Happen in Asia, and The Student Leadership Challenge. Kouzes and Posner’s Leadership Practices Inventory has been called “the most reliable, up-to-date leadership instrument available today,” and the online version has been completed by over three million people.

Following Barry’s keynote, four breakout sessions led by local leaders will be available. These breakouts will build on The Leadership Challenge model of modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process and more:
      • Your Employees Are Watching. What Do They See?
Jamie Bierman, Senior HR Advisor, HR Elements, LLC
      • Practice What You Preach: Equity in Your Workplace
Arlene Koth, President & Founder, OPC Consulting Services
      • Co-Creating Fundraising Success
Scott Provancher, President & CEO, Ignite Philanthropy
      • Rethink Your Board Meetings to Increase Your Impact

The program will conclude with the inaugural Leadership Legacy Awards presented to two individual nonprofit leaders, and a nonprofit organization, who have demonstrated great efforts to help secure the future of the organizations they serve and support, so these nonprofits can continue to help build and secure the future of every individual and community they serve.
