Meet the Leaf-cutting Ants:Advanced Agricultural Civilization by Instinct

Randy Morgan, Emeritus Curator – Insectarium, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, will be our guest speaker.
Ants dominate land habitats and play vital roles as predators, soil-builders and seed-planters. One outstanding group, the leaf-cutting ants, has a social complexity second only to humans! Their nests are fortress-cities with millions of task-specialized workers growing fungus for food on freshly-cut leaves. Their relentless activities both stimulate native plant growth and devastate human crops. Come learn about ants and especially our fungus-farming friends and foes, and see a few live ant colonies! Saturday, July 27 • 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
