      Turkey Bowl

Fountain Square starts Thanksgiving early with yet another wacky event!

We bowl frozen turkeys on the Fountain Square ice rink, because it’s silly and fun.

The person who knocks down the most pins in three throws will win $50 cash, a DVD of the classic “Turkeys Away” episode of WKRP in Cincinnati, and a trophy.

In 2010, nearly 150 people participated! James Weiler of South Fairmount won with a score of 20 out of 30.

To play, participants must bring two non-perishable food items* or $5 cash to the Fountain Square ice rink. In 2010, players donated a total of $195 and 20 bags of food. Food and cash donations are given to Jimmy Heath House, a 25-unit permanent supportive housing project that assists chronically homeless individuals and is managed by Over-the-Rhine Community Housing.

*Suggested food items: canned meat products (tuna, chicken, ham, spaghetti with meatballs, chili with meat and beans, beef stew, beans and hot dogs, etc.), peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruits, canned soups, and boxed macaroni and cheese. No glass, please.
